1. أَسقَمتَني جُفونَهُ وَمَكاني

    عِندَهُ في الهَوى مَكان الخلالِ

    His glances made me ill and in low estate,

    Yet my place with him in love is lofty still.

  2. لَم يشن جِسمي النَحول وَلَكن

    زادَني الحُب رفعة بِاِنتِحالي

    My body wastes not through the longings I conceal,

    But love hath gained me merit through my suffering.

  3. وَكَفى ذَلِكَ الخلال اِفتِخاراً

    بِثَناياهُ أَو نَظير مِثالي

    Suffice it that disgrace for me doth honour bring,

    To be enfolded there or likened to his like.
