أَرسَلَت أُمُّ جَعفَرٍ لا تَزُرنا

لَيتَ شِعري بِالغَيبِ مَن ذا دَهاها

I sent Ja'far's mother, do not visit us

I wish I knew the unseen, who is it that prompted her?

أَأَتاها مُحَرِّشٌ بِنَمِيمٍ

كاذِبٌ ما أَرادَ إِلا رَداها

Did a mischief-maker come to her with slander -

A liar whose only desire was to turn her away?
