إِنَّ زَينَ الغَديرِ مَن كَسَر الجَر
رَ وَغَنَّى غِناءَ فَحلٍ مُجيدِ
Surely the pool’s adornment is the one who broke the drawn-out
strain and sang as a consummate master sings.
قُلتُ مَن أِنتِ يا ظَعينُ فَقالَت
كنتُ فيما مَضَى لآلِ سعيدِ
I said, “Who are you, O lady of the camel-litter?” She replied,
“In days gone by, I belonged to the house of Sa‘id.”
