أَقولُ التِماسَ العُذرِ لَمّا ظَلَمتِني
وَحَمَّلتِني ذَنباً وَما كُنتُ مُذنِبا
I speak, seeking pardon, now that you have wronged me,
and burdened me with a sin, though I was no sinner:
هَبيني امرأً إِمّا بَريئاً ظَلَمتِهِ
وإِمّا مُسيئاً قَد أَنابَ وأَعتَبا
Suppose me a man—either innocent, one you wronged,
or else an offender who has repented and made amends.
