ياأيها الرجلُ الموكَّلُ بالصِّبا

وصِبا الكبيرِ إذا صَبا تعليلُ

O man entrusted with youth

And the exuberance of the elder when he is exuberant

قدِّمْ لنفسك قبل موتِك صالحًا

واعملْ فليس إلى الخلود سبيلُ

Do good for yourself before your death

And work, for there is no way to immortality

إنَّ الحِمامَ لنازلٌ بكَ لاحقٌ

والموتُ ربعُ إقامةٍ مَحلولُ

Indeed the fate descends upon you in pursuit

And death is the dissolution of a transitory stay

لا بدَّ مِنْ يومٍ لكل مُعَمَّر

فيهِ لمدةِ عيشهِ تكميلُ

There must come a day for every long-lived one

In which the duration of his life is completed

والناسُ أرسالٌ إلى أمَدٍ لهم

يَمضي لهم جيلٌ ويُخلَق جيلُ

And people are sent on to a term for them

A generation passes for them, and a generation is born
