أَقولُ لَمّا التَقَينا وَهيَ صادِفَةٌ
عَنّي لِيَهنَكِ مَن تُدنينَهُ دونِي
When we met by chance, I said,
Keep away from me, spare yourself my trouble,
إِنّي سَأَمنَحُكِ الهجرانَ مُعتَزِماً
مِن غَيرِ بُغضٍ لَعَلَّ الهَجرَ يُسليني
I've decided to shun you, though not from hate,
Perhaps this estrangement will bring me solace.
وَمُثنِياً رَجعَ أَيّامٍ لَنا سَلَفَت
سَقياً وَرَعياً لِذاكَ الدِينِ مِن دِينِ
But I pine for days we spent together before,
When paying our dues to that worthy faith.
