وَأَغْيَدَ يَحْوي وَجْهُهُ الحُسْنَ كُلَّهُ
وَيُنْكِرُ أَنَّ البَدْرَ فيهِ شَريكُهُ
His face contained all beauty, perfect and bright,
He denied the full moon could his equal be.
أَتاني وَفي يُمْناهُ كَأْسٌ كَأَنَّها
مِنَ التِّبْرِ يُعْلَى باللُّجَيْنِ سَبيكُهُ
He came, cup in hand like purest silver wrought,
As if forged by lujayn from finest tibar tree.
فَنازَعْتُهُ الصَّهْباءَ طَوْراً وَتارَةً
جَنَى الرِّيقِ حَتَّى نَمَّ بالصُّبْحِ دِيكُهُ
The wine I disputed with him through the night,
Till the cock's first crow with the dawn heralded light.
