1. وَأَوانِسٍ تَدنو إِذا اِجتَدِيَتْ

    بِحَديثها وَعَن الخَنى شُمْسِ

    And companions who draw near when gloom descends

    With their talk, and the sun of sorrow sets,

  2. تَطوي إِليَّ الأَرضَ في خَفَرٍ

    تَحتَ الظَّلامِ بأَوجُهٍ مُلْسِ

    Folding the earth in soft twilight,

    Beneath the darkness with bright faces,

  3. نَطَقَتْ نَواعي اللَّيلِ فاِنصَرَفَتْ

    تطأ الدُّجى بِخَلاخِلٍ خُرْسٍ

    The stars of night spoke and then departed,

    Trampling the gloom on silent feet.
