وَمُرْتَدٍ بِالُّدجَى رَوَّحْتُ صَهْوَتَهُ
بَعْدَ اخْتِلاسِ ذَماءِ الرِّيحِ بِالعَنَقِ
In the dark night I soothed his panting chest
After the wind stole the kisses of his neck
فَما مَسَحْتُ بِعُرْفِ الصُّبْحِ حافِرَهُ
وَلا فَلَيْتُ عَلَيْهِ لِمَّة الغَسَقِ
Yet at dawn I did not stroke his hoofs
Nor bid him farewell as night fell
وَلَيْسَ فِي الأَرْضِ مَنْ يَطْوي إِليهِ فَلاً
يَجْلو لَمَى اللَّيْلِ فيها مَبسِمُ الفَلَقِ
None in this land can journey to him
To soothe the night’s torment with the smile of dawn
