People rejoice on Eid, except a youth
Whose melancholy sorrows in the folds of exile,
With concerns between his sides, he does not disclose them,
For one’s joy is where his family and homeland are.
We have no estrangement, for the countries are ours,
Their conquests and with us the clan is welcomed.
Before us they were not glorious,
Nor will they have a good view after us.
The land is adorned with us, its edges, so when
We incline towards Damascus, Yemen envies it for us.
That abode we inherited from Muawiyah
Though time made us settle in Kufa.
My yearnings roam towards it
And prevent the eye from getting accustomed to forgetfulness.
If only I knew - though useless -
Would the bosoms of Munjid appear to my eyes?
Shall I moan at the door of the palace,
Its anchorage, from the direction of life, arid?
Thereupon are the red plateaus, if they called out
To the dead, his soul would return to the body.
