Cling, my brother, to honored deeds,
Sip the nectars of noble ancestry.
For we set up fellowships leading to them,
While the glance of favor smiles on the beneficiary.
And we wield well-burnished lances,
And parade in suits of mail.
Once we were kings in the wilds,
Singing what Abu Yazid had built.
But time has tugged at the cloak of honor,
Disgracing the freeborn with the guise of slaves.
