رَكِبتُ طِرفي فأَذرى دَمعَهُ أَسَفاً

عِندَ اِنصرافيَ مِنهُم مُضمِرَ الياسِ

I rode away as tears fell in sorrow

When I left them, losing all hope

وَقالَ حَتّامَ تؤذيني فإِن سَنَحَتْ

جَوانِحٌ لَكَ فاركَبني إِلى النَّاسِ

Hattam said "You hurt me, yet if you can

Ride me again to the people"
