    O you who lives, if you depart early,

    Then bid the ones bidding farewell a little.

    With the caravan is a gazelle felling the mature,

    With an eye like polished silver.

    She came out to bid farewell, so she bid farewell to my heart,

    And anguish, and yearning, and sickness.

    بسُلَيمَى تَوَقُّصاً وَذَميلا

    And my tears passed by water-skins leaked;

    My night journey was in fragments and patches.

    And love refused that after that beautiful face

    There would be for me any consolation beautiful.

    مِثلُهُ فهوَ لا يَزالُ نَجيلا

    And my waist complained from Suleima’s waist;

    The like of it is not straight and pliant.

    And my healing from it is a breeze visiting me

    And a glance glancing to me, infirm.

    Have you heard, O dwellers of the land of Najd,

    Of two patients who heal a patient?
