هجرت فالقلب معمود

غادة غض الصبا رود

I abandoned, so the heart is baptized,

The youth of Ghada is freshly blooming,

في مطاوي طرفها سقم

وبذاك الخد توريد

In the slopes of her gaze there is sickness,

And with that cheek, reddening,

كلما أضمرت سلوتها

عادني من حبهاء يد

Whenever I harbored her gentleness,

Her love brought me back,

لست أنساها وقد طرقت

وقميص الليل مقدود

I do not forget her, though she knocked,

And the night gown is outstretched,

وحمام الواد يبين له

في فروع البان تغريد

The doves of the valley appear to it,

Singing in the branches of the acacia,

ولمنظوم الحيا سحرا

في رياض الحزن تبديل

The prose of life has magic,

In the gardens of sadness, changing,

والصبا مكدودة ولها

نفس بالغور معدود

And youth is exhausted, for it has

A soul in the abyss, counted,

يعتلي غفرانه فلها

بين سبط الزهر تجعيد

His amnesty ascends, so for it

Among the progeny of flowers, arrange

صاح قد صاح النعيم بنا

فأجاب الناي والعودُ

It cried, the bliss cried over us,

So the flute and the affectionate responded

فاسقني فاللهو مطَّرد

بيننا والهم مطرودُ

Serve me the wine for worry is dispelled

Between us and worries are dispelled

ولنا ظل نلوذ به

من بهاء الدين ممدودُ

We have a shadow to seek refuge with

From the brilliance of faith outstretched

ماجد غمر الرداء به

عُرِفَ المعروفُ والجودُ

Majed submerged his gown in it

Goodness and generosity were known

وكريم ليس يلفته

عن ندى عذلُ وتفنيدُ

The generous who turns away from him

From the dew of apology and refuting?

حسدوه في العلى وكذا

كل عالي القدر محسودُ

They envied him in the highness, and thus

Every honorable is also envied

صدفِت فيه الظنون كما

صدفت منه المواعيدُ

Suspicions coincided in him, as

Appointments coincided from him

أبيض الأحساب في زمن

جمةٍ أحداثُه السودُ

White boarding in age

Of pregnant sorrows and dark events

يا بني الحاجات دونكم

نائلا ما فيه تصريدُ

O you people of needs including you

Achieving what make one guided in it

لم يفت من ذا الورى أحدُ

قصده جدواه مقصودُ

None from this land any one

His purpose seriousness intended

حل عزم الدهر منه فتى

عزمه بالنصر مقصودُ

The determination of time from him, well-mannered

His determination with victory intended

من يرد الميض قانية

حين حوض الموت مورودُ

Who wants the elapse consoling

While the pool of death is cast

جئته فالبخل مفتقد

عنده والجود موجودُ

I came to him, so stinginess is absent

Near him, and generosity is present

يا جوادا عن مواهبه

صحة تشوى الأسانيد

O generous about his grants

Cheerful blessings its origins

جد وخذ ما شئت مدح

وثناء فيه تجويد

Generous take what you wished praise

And compliment in it creation

وأرى فرق النجم مقتدراً

وابق لي ما أورق العود

And I see its influence powerful star

And stay what the affectionate riveted
