العارض بالغور أَبرق

فأضاء أجراعا وأبرقَ

The lightning flashed in the valley,

Illuminating the valleys and flashing,

ظلت جفونك يوم شر

قي الحمى بالدمع تشرق

Your eyelids remained closed on an evil day,

While fever made your tears glisten,

أسفا على بعد الفري

ق وشمل الفتنا المفرّق

Regretting the absence of the beloved one,

While discord enveloped those separated,

ومعربد اللحظات من سكر الص

صبا خنث مقرطق

The moments passed intoxicated with the nectar of youth,

Softly murmuring like a turtle dove,

حلوا الشمائل كالشمو

ل سلاف ريقته وأروق

With beautiful features like a summertime plant,

Its saliva pleasant and most elegant,

قمر يدل بحسنه ال

موموقِ والدل المعشق

A moon lending its beauty to the expectant one,

Seducing with a seductive glance,

حرج السوار وشاحه

كفؤاد عاشقه وأقلق

Disturbing the bracelet and its ornament,

Like a lover's heart, anxious and restless,

رشق القلوب ومر بي

كالغصنمختالا وأرشق

Sprinkling hearts as it passed by,

Swaying like a delicate branch,

نادمته والنجم في

إذن الدجى قرط معلق

I reproached it while the star hung,

In the ear of nightfall, dangling,

والطل في ورق الشقا

ئق جائل والظل أورق

With the shadow in the leaves of the arbor,

Wavering while the shade turned green,

وصبحته في روضة

بات بصوب المزن تغبق

And its morning in a garden,

That spent the night facing the south wind, wilting,

ذهبية لهبية

كالبرق تحت دجى تألق

Golden flaming

Like lightning in the darkness shining,

يخطو المدير لكأسها

في دستبانات ويلمق

The full moon walks towards its cup,

Through the vines, sipping,

نفخت فخلت نسيمها

مسكا ذكيا حين ينشق

It blew and its breeze dispersed musk,

Subtle and fragrant when it wafts,

أو طيب ما أثني به

من رائق المدح المنسق

What excellent praise I utter about it,

Eloquent eulogies, composed and structured,

أَبدا على المولى البها

ء ونشره أذكى وأعبق

Eternal blessings upon the magnificent lord,

And his achievements, most wise and redolent,

بحر يعوم البحر في

جدوى أنامله فيغرق

An ocean swimming in the sea through the efficacy of his fingers, lest it drown,

A lion fearing the lion on the day of panic, his might tearing apart,

ليث يخاف الليث يو

م الروع سطوته ويفرق

The determined one takes steps illuminated and polished, smooth,

No hardship can help him nor any favor burden him,

ذو العزم يمضي في الخطو

ب مضاء مصقول مذلق

If I praise none but him,

I have found the one I praise to be truthful,

لا رفده صعب ولا

معروفه كدر مرنق

Or I have illuminated the traits of censure,

Shining with generosity and radiance,

إن ما مادح غيره

ألفيت مادحه يصدقُ

With his vision he pastures the enemy,

And his wrath at night is disturbing,

أو أظلمت شيم اللئا

م أضاء من كرم وأشرق

He established the market of poetry after its recession,

On the prairie of praise, toiling,

بيراعه راع العدو

وفجنه خوفا مؤرقٌ

O Father of Excellence and Munificence,

The river of generosity tomorrow will flow,

واقام للأشعار بع

د كسادها سوقا ونفق

O son of the one whose justice encompassed the country and its people,

Supporter of the religion of God thereby achieving glory and success,

لولاه لم تر في العرا

ق مروجا بالمدح يعرق

His opinions are a wall for the state of the Abbasids,

And a trench for it he fights unrelentingly,

بك يا أبا الفضل الجوا

د غدا غدير الجود متأق

يا ابن الذي عم البلا

د وأهلها عدلا وطبق

عضد الإله الدين منه

بماجد ندس موفق

آراؤه سور لدو

لة آل عباس وخندق

ومناضل عنها بسه

م في النوائب غير أفوق

خفاق ألوية النّدى

ما أمّه راجٍ فأخفق

ذو راحة فتحت لنا

باب السماحة وهو مغلق

وخلائق كالراح بال

ماء القراح غدت تصفق

يهمي إذا سئل الندى

فكأنه سيل تدفق

كم فك من أَسرِ الخطو

ب وكيدها عان واطلق

يا موئل الجاني الطري

د ومآل من أكدى وأملق

خذ من لساني مدحة

قلب الحسود بها محرق

غراء محدثه لها

فعل المدام أما يعتق

لو أنها طرقت حيا

ء سمع بشار لا طرق

تبقى مجدددة ملا

بسها إذا ما الدهر أخلق

واسعدبعيد الفطر وأب

ق لظنّ ذي أمل تحقق

لا زال شأوك في العلى

شأوا امرىء هيهات يلحق
