يا عضد الدين دم مطاعا

تعدل في الحكم والقضايا

O supporter of the faith, your blood is obedient,

You judge fairly in ruling and legal matters,

يا رائق البشر والمعاني

والخلق والخُلقِ والسجايا

O comforter of mankind, meanings,

Morals, character, and tendencies,

يا من إذا ما أتاه عاف

رأى نقودا بلا نسايا

O you who when given gold sees only generosity,

Not thinking of keeping anything for yourself,

يا متبعا كل يوم جود

بكور نعماه بالعشابا

O you who every day practices generosity,

Your early blessings are like fresh herbage,

ما لصغاري باكين شوقا

منهم إلى الخبز في الزوايا

Why are my little ones crying longingly

For bread in the corners?

وأنت بعد الإله تُجرِي

بأمره البرق في البرايا

And you after God send

His lightning across the deserts,

فأحن على صبية صغار

عادوا من الجوع كالحنايا

So have mercy on small children

Who are emaciated from hunger,

كاسبهم شاعر فميز

أهلبقي في الورى بقايا

Make them your responsibility, distinguished poet,

So the last remnants survive in this world,

أو كان من قبل ذاكريم

تنضى إليه كوم المطايا

Or were you formerly generous

With heaps of favors?

سواك نلت المنى سريعا

وذاق حسادك المنايا

None but you has quickly attained wishes

While your enviers tasted death,

فاجر لهم راتبا كقوم

عممتهم منك بالعطايا

So allot them a pension like a people

You have accustomed to your generosity,

تكشف ببذل النوال عنهم

معجلا هذه البلايا

Revealing with your gifts their condition

Hastening to end these afflictions,

واسعد بذا العيد وابق واجعل

عداك فيه من الضحايا

Make happy with this feast, live long, and make

All but you on it among the victims!
