أقسمت برا أن ابن واقا

قد ألف الكذب والنفاقا

I swear by God that Ibn Waqaa

Has mastered lying and hypocrisy

وحلّق العتب من وراء ال

مأبون واستعذب الحلاقا

And removed the blame from behind

Rejected and made wrongdoing palatable

أخرج متى شئت أن تراه

يلفَ ليلا بالساق ساقا

Bring him out whenever you want to see

Him wrap his legs around legs by night

ترى أخا ابنة يزقي

إذا راى العفر والزقاقا

You will see a brother of the daughter of Yazqee

When he sees dirt and alleyways

كان مناه رغيف دخن

وقد غدا يبشم الرقاقا

He used to have a smoky loaf of bread

And now he smiles at thin bread

يشق بالنعل عن قريب

قفاه إن عاود الشقاقا

He tears open nearby

His skull if he returns to discord
