1. وهواك أقسم أنه أوفى القسم

    ما كنت في السلوان إلا متهمُ

    By your love I swear it's the truest oath

    I was not blameworthy in passion

  2. لي فيك طرف ما يلائمه الكرى

    وفؤاد صعب قد ألم به الألم

    For you I have a glance that doesn't suit hardship

    And a difficult heart pained by pain

  3. يا مزمع الهجران عمداً والقلى

    ما كان ما زعم العذول كما زعم

    O you who intend separation deliberately while being friendly

    It was not what the celibates claimed as they claimed

  4. لك طرة كالليل إن أسدلتها

    خفي الصبلاح وفرَّة تجلو الظلم

    You have a moment like the night when it descends

    The dawn is hidden and the darkness clears

  5. وجفون معتلّ الجفون سقيمها

    تدوى الصحيح ولا تبلّ من السقم

    With eyelids, their sick eyelids are ill

    The healthy ache, and are not touched by the sickness

  6. هيهات يلفتني الوشاه بعذلهم

    عن حب معتدل يجور إذا حكم

    Alas! Their false accusations won't distract me

    From a moderate love that wrongs when it judges

  7. والله ما أبديا بغير وصاله

    أو جود يحيى ذى النوال المقتسم

    By God! Without his union I won't express

    Generosity that enlivens the divided fortune

  8. صب ببذل المكرمات متيم

    ضمن راحتيه تعلمت صوب الديم

    A loyal lover who rains down favors

    He guaranteed my comfort and inclined toward intimacy

  9. علقت أكف الراغبين وأمسكت

    منه بحبل في النوائب ما انصرم

    He attracted the hands of the eager

    And held me with a rope in tribulations that hasn't snapped

  10. بأشم مصقول السجايا والحجى

    غير ان معسول المزايا والشيم

    With a polished, eloquent and wise disposition

    Yet with a sweet, praised and virtuous character

  11. أمسى يعد لكل يوم كريهة

    عزم امرىء يمضي الأمور إذا عزم

    He intends for every day an ugly determination

    The resolve of a man who executes affairs when determined

  12. وأصم معتدل الكعوب وأبيضا

    كالبرق نضنض في الغمامة وابتسم

    And deaf, with steady steps, and white

    Like lightning that flickers in the clouds and smiles

  13. ومتنون صافية المنون كأنها

    صرح يمرده النسيم إذا نسم

    With a slender figure as if it's

    A palace that the breeze sways when it blows

  14. جذلان يضرم بأسه نارا الوغى

    أبدا وينفح ما دحوه في ضرم

    Fierce in battle, kindling fires of turmoil

    Endlessly, and he fans what he lit into flames

  15. كم حاز من سيف واقليم معا

    بذباب سيف في يديه أو قلم

    How much did he gain of sword and territory

    With a slicing sword in his hand or a pen

  16. واذا تأخرت الرجال رأيته

    متقدما يوم الوغى ثبت القدم

    And if the men lagged, you'd see him

    Advancing on the day of turmoil, firm of foot

  17. من فوى أدهمٍ إن جرى أبصرته

    ليلا تسدّى النقع أو سيلاً دهمِ

    The one who surpassed the brave, if he marched I saw him

    At night when darkness draped the plains or a torrential flood

  18. مولاي عون الدين مالك مهمل

    نهب وعوضك مثل جارك في حرم

    My lord the supporter of the faith, Malik, the neglected

    Plunder and your equal neighbor in sanctity

  19. أيفوتني منك السماح بقول من

    بيني وبينهم تفاوقت القيم

    Could generosity from you elude me with words

    Though I and they have unequaled virtues?

  20. أو لست ناظم كل بيت سائر

    لعلاك تنتشر النجوم إذا انتظم

    Or aren't you the composer of every circulating poem

    Perhaps you'll spread the stars when composed

  21. لم يمدح الفتح الوليد بمثله

    يوما ولا بعث البعيث إلى الحكم

    None has praised the Opening Conquest like it

    Nor did the Messenger dispatch to authority

  22. وغدا تعود إلى العراف مظفرا

    والعرب قد أوليتها ملك العجم

    And tomorrow you'll return to the seer victorious

    And the Arabs, their kingdom was given to the non-Arabs

  23. متقلدا بالنصر قدفت الورى

    طرا وقدت عذا الخليفة عن أمم

    Girded with victory, the lands were stunned

    And the caliph was protected from nations

  24. واقوم ممتدحا لمجدك شاكرا

    لجزيل ما خوّلتنيه من نعم

    And I stand praising your glory, thanking

    For the abundant favor you've granted me

  25. بعلاك أخلف صادقا لولا الذي

    تجد العيال إذا بعدت من العدم

    By your elevation, I'll remain loyal, except for Him

    Whom children find when they're distant from non-existence

  26. ما سرت إلا في ركابك غازياً

    متعلما منك الشجاعة والكرم

    I won't travel except in your train, raiding

    Learning courage and generosity from you
