1. ودعت قلبي في الخليط المنجد

    فتقاعد يا عين بي أو أنجدي

    I bid my heart farewell in the deep night

    So turn away, O eye of mine, or you will find no succor

  2. هذا الفراق ولو أردت زيادة

    مما لقيت من الأسى لم تزدد

    This parting - even if you wanted more

    Sorrow than you have met - would not increase

  3. من مبلغ العذال عني أنني

    مقتول قاتلة اللواحظ لاتدى

    Tell those who reproach me that I

    Am slain by the blows of pitiless fortune

  4. تثني على البدر اللثام وتنثني

    عن مثل خوط البانة المتاود

    Who folds the radiant moon in her garment and turns away

    From the like of outstretched hands begging

  5. ما كان لي جلد فأدَّى بعدها

    لكنما أودى الغداة تجلدى

    I had not the fortitude, so after her

    I was destroyed at dawn by my own boldness

  6. ذات القلائد ما أحلّ لك الهوى

    قتلي وقد حلَّلتهِ فتقلَّدي

    O she of the necklaces, passion does not allow you

    To kill me when you yourself have indulged in it

  7. ورحلت حين رحلت عنك بمقلة

    عبرى وغلّة لم تبردِ

    When you went away from me with my love and longing

    Never cooling, you took away my tears and anguish

  8. سقت العهاد عراص معهدك الذي

    جمع الصبابة والصِّبا من معهد

    I watered the pact, the covenant you made

    That brought together youth and morning in one bond

  9. وونت بقوته الرياح ولا ونى

    دمع الغمام يروح فيه ويغتدي

    It tossed about in its power the winds but did not toss about

    The tears of the clouds that came and went in it

  10. فكرت عصر شبيبة قضَّيته

    فيه ولما اقضى حق مفنَّدي

    I remembered the springtime of my youth that I spent

    In it, but did not fulfill the right of my devotion

  11. عصرا بلغت به المنى فكأنه

    عصر الأمام المستضيء الأمجد

    A springtime in which I attained wishes, as though it were

    The radiant and glorious springtime of the imam

  12. مولى الأنام أبي محمد الذي

    ورث الفخار عن النبي محمد

    My master of mankind, my father Muhammed

    Who inherited glory from the Prophet Muhammed

  13. ذي المكرمات الغر والمنن التي

    نفد الزمان وذكرها لم ينفد

    Possessor of noble deeds, a cave whose generosity

    Time has not depleted, and whose reputation has not waned

  14. ذاك الذي أضحى مآل محلأٍ

    عن ورده وثمال عاف مجتدي

    He whose place of rest became filled

    With roses, and a grove lush with trees

  15. يبدوك بالمعروف قبل سؤاله

    لله ما أهنا عطاء المهتدي

    He would grant you favor before you asked

    What excellent gifts are those of the rightly guided!

  16. ملتف أعراف الوشيج إذا أنتمي

    أي المنابت والثرى والسؤدد

    Twisting the necklaces of intimacy when youinclined toward

    Any places of growth, land, or riverbanks

  17. وأرى زناد العزم لم يرقَ دجىً

    في ليل مشكلة برأى مسلد

    I see the spark of determination did not slumber

    In the night of complex matters with resolute opinion

  18. هامي سحاب الراحتين لآملٍ

    سامي منار المجد ذاكي المصّدِ

    My worries were clouds of comfort for a hopeful one

    Lofty as a minaret of glory and wise of purpose

  19. ذو همة قد جاوزت بعلوها

    هام السّماك معا وفرق الفرقدِ

    With an ambition whose loftiness surpassed

    The inkwells and the stars equally

  20. هجدت رعاياه غداة رعاهم

    أمنا بمقلة خاشع متهجدِ

    His subjects celebrated when he shepherded them

    Gently with the staff of one humble and devout

  21. ملك إذا ظمى السنان بكفه

    فو يد من عاداه اسم لموردِ

    A king whose palm, when swords were sheathed by it

    Would return their blades as white as hailstones

  22. وإذا سيوف الهند أوردها الوفى

    بيضا أعاد لجينها كالعسجد

    His hands took up a feat the like of which

    Was never seen in glory, then cast the unerring arrow

  23. أخذت يداه بمُسهمةٍ ما مثلها

    في المجد ثم رمت بسهم مسدد

    O lieutenant of the Merciful, you who restored

    The prime of nomads and the sheep-pastures of the filthy ones

  24. أخليفةَ الرحمن يا من ربعه

    كلأَ العفاة ونجعة المسترفدِ

    You who could dissipate the unity

    Of the wicked, O restorer of the dispersed unity

  25. بدَّدت شمل لهاك ما بين الورى

    يا جامعا شمل العلى المتبددِ

    O you whose actions appear shining white

    In every record, a year of drought made black

  26. يا من ترى أفعاله مبيضة

    في كل سدفه عام جدب اسودِ

    I continued to be the objective, determinedly inclining

    Toward purposes, possessing might and aim

  27. لازلت مقصود الجناب ميَّمما

    دانى المقاصد ذا عد ومقصدِ

    You were generous to me and showed the finest

    Generosity of a torrent flooding violently

  28. قد جدت لي كرا وأحسن ما يرى

    مجود الجواد الخرقعند

    By your minister - truly he administered the land

    In new events, endowed with penetrating perception

  29. بأبي وزيرك أنه وزر الورى

    في الحادثات ورب رأيِ محصدِ

    I saw him as the bravest who would unsheathe

    His sword in battle and above the naked sword

  30. تلقاه أشجع من يجرد في الوغى

    سيفا وينهد فوق نهد أجردِ

    And the gentlest to guide the people under the darkness

    With the horses stumbling over rugged terrain

  31. وتراه اهدِى القوم تحت عجاجةٍ

    والخيل تعثر بالقنا المتقصدِ

    Accustomed to plunging into adversities through you

    He emulated in courage and magnanimity

  32. متعودا خوض الكرائه لم يزل

    بك في الشجاعة والسماحة يقتدي

    Confronting your enemies and meeting them

    On a plain noisy with the neighing of stallions

  33. متعرضا لعداتكم ولقائهم

    في عارض زجل الجوانب مزبدِ

    I observed him and saw the best endowed

    Man whose sight would please the envious

  34. أبصرته فرأيت احسن منعم

    تقذى برؤيته عيون الحسَّدِ

    O embodiment of favor, you protected him

    And guided aright his blemish that was not set right

  35. ياكالي الإحسان أَنت حميته

    وسددت ثلمته التي لم تسددِ

    O sole one of my religion, o you whose love

    Obligates all believers to hold fast

  36. يا واحد الدينيا ويامن حبه

    فرض به استمساك كل موحدِ

    You remain open-handed, pouring the dew

    In sustenance for students, flourishing the hand

  37. لازلت طلق الكف منهمر الندى

    بالرفد للطلاب مخضر الندى

    And you reached your feast day a thousand years, returning

    In happiness remaining, and eternal honor

  38. ولقيت عيدك ألف عام عائد

    بسعادة تبقى وعز سرمدِ

    You remain open-handed, pouring the dew

    In sustenance for students, braiding the soil of the hand

  39. لا زلت سبط الكف منهمر الندى

    بالرفد للطلاب جعد ثرى اليَّد
