1. لم يدر أن الدمع خير عتادِ

    حتى حدا بالعامريه حادي

    He did not know that tears are the best supplies

    Until he arrived at Al-Aamiriyah leading

  2. شيّع غوادي الظعن يوم تحملت

    من دمعك الجاري بصوب غوادي

    He bid farewell to the valleys of grief when you

    Shed your flowing tears towards the valleys

  3. فعلام ينتجع البوارق رائد

    وسحاب جفنك نجعة الروادِ

    So why do the ships rely on a guide

    While the clouds of your eyelids are the refuge of visitors

  4. ساروا فلا الجرعاء جرعاء الحمى

    عندي ولا وادي الأراكة وادي

    They traveled but neither Al-Jur'a'a, feverish with thirst

    Nor the valley of Al-Arakah is my valley

  5. سقيا لأيام لبست جديدها

    والأمر أمرى والمراد مرادي

    Watering days that wore their new clothes

    And the matter is my own and the purpose is my own

  6. مالي سوى الجمال من جمل كما

    مالي سوى الإسعاد عند سعاد

    I have nothing but beauty from the herd of camels

    I have nothing but happiness with Sa'd

  7. تمسي تنازعني المدامه طفلة

    ريا لاروادف بضة الأعضادِ

    You come to me at night, a child disputes me

    A gazelle wishing for the whiteness of forearms

  8. ترنو كما يرنو الغزال وتنثني

    عن مثل خوط البانة الميَّادِ

    Yearning as the gazelle yearns and bending

    Over the likes of the plaited bracelet threads

  9. وتكاد لولا خفة في قدّها

    تنهال لي هيل النّقا المنقادِ

    And were it not for the lightness of her stature

    She would shower the compliant pearls upon me

  10. يا اهل نجد لطالب رفدكم

    نيل وهل لأسيركم من فادي

    O people of Najd, for your seeker of help

    There is no savior, and does your prisoner have a redeemer?

  11. ضنَّت بخيلتكم بوصل محبها

    علقت أمالي به فتعلقت

    Your stinginess has stinted the union of her love

    I hung my hopes on it, so I got hung

  12. لا عذر لي إن رمت نبل مبخل

    وندى جمال الملك بالمرصادِ

    I have no excuse if I cast the arrows of an ungenerous

    Whose nobility the dew of beauty has lain in wait for

  13. علقت أمالي به فتعلقت

    منه بمبدو النوال معادِ

    I hung my hopes on it, so I got hung

    By its giving of boons a return

  14. بمهذب الأخلاق لولا جوده

    ما بشرت أم الندى بجوادِ

    By his refined morals, were it not for his generosity

    The mother of dew would not have given glad tidings of a gallant one

  15. مستقبل النعمى بعيد مدى العلى

    عف الضمائر طاهر الأبرادِ

    The reception of favors, far-reaching, lofty

    Chaste souls and pure garments

  16. يغني ويفني حين يقسم دهره

    يومين يوم ندى ويوم جلادِ

    Singing and spending when fate portions his days

    A day of dew and a day of executioner

  17. كوما يبخل حاتما وشجاعة

    تزرى بباس الحارث بن عبادِ

    One who does not withhold like Hatem and bravery

    Woven with the heroism of Al-Harith ibn 'Abbad

  18. غيث إذا بخل الحيا ليث إذا

    غشي الوغى طود من الأطوادِ

    A rain if the living withheld, a lion if

    The battle obscured a towering mountain

  19. طلق المحيا واليدين رباعة

    مأوى العفاة وكعبة القصّادِ

    Free-spirited, open-handed, clever

    Refuge of the chaste and shrine of archers

  20. من لا يقول الضيف في أبياته

    ما قالت الأضياف في حمادِ

    One whose verses do not say what the guests said

    In the poetry of Hammad

  21. يا حاسدي علم الكفاة منيتم

    منه بدى نقم على الحسادِ

    O enviers, you wished for generosity from me

    From it appeared, to the envious, a star

  22. ضحكت به الأيام بعد عبوسها

    ضحك السيوف بدت من الأغاد

    After its gloom, the days laughed at it

    The swords laughed that came out of the scabbards

  23. من لا يشف غباره في خطه

    عبدالحميد ولا فتى عبادِ

    One whose dust does not heal in his line

    Is not Abd al-Hamid or the youth of 'Abbad

  24. وإذا جرى في الشعر مبتدهابه

    في حالة فاكم بنقعر زيادِ

    And if his outstanding talents flowed in poetry

    In the case of Falcom in the depths of Ziyad

  25. غالب ببكتمر العدا تغلب

    ولو أن النجوم السائرات أعادي

    He overcomes the foes with Bektamur

    And even if the moving stars reiterated

  26. بمعرف المعروف ما لعفاته

    منه سوى الأرفاف والارفادِ

    With the knowledge of favors, his chastity

    Has none but pleats and panels

  27. شمس الكتابه والخطابه والحجى

    قمر الدجنَّة والندى والنادي

    Sun of writing, discourse and conversation

    Moon of intimacy, dew and club

  28. يا من بلغت به من الزمن المني

    وسمحت للأيام بالحمادِ

    O you who reached with time the purpose

    And allowed days to praise

  29. خولتني النعى التي ملأت يدي

    وملكت بالجود الجميل قبادي

    You made me: elegy filling my hands

    And you owned with generosity provinces

  30. وجمعت قسرا بين حظّي والغنى

    فلأ دعونّك جامع الأصدادِ

    You brought together, forcibly, my fortune and wealth

    So I will not call you a reconciler of opposites

  31. وأرحت مدحي عن ندى من وعده

    من شدة التتطيب كالايعادِ

    You relieved my praise of the dew of one whose promise

    Was intensely perfumed like aloeswood

  32. وأظنني موسى القربض لأنني

    مجربما جزتي أكف جمادِ

    I think I am Moses grasping because I

    Am experienced with what your palms, inanimate, have harvested

  33. فلاء لبسنك ما بقيت مدائحا

    محشوقة الإنشاء والإنشادِ

    So wear what remains of your praises

    Embroidered in rhetoric and recitation

  34. أبقى على الأيام فخرا شائعا

    من مفخر الأعمام والأجدادِ

    Making eternal, famed pride

    From the pride of uncles and ancestors

  35. فتهن شهر الصوم وأنفده بقا

    مستعسد الأعوام والأعيادِ

    So it pleased the month of fasting and spent it well

    Prospering years and holidays
