مؤتمنَ الدولة وله سبحانَ من

حسَّن أخَلاقَك والخِلقَه

O trusted of the state, glorified is He

Who improved your morals and manners

يا مطلق العاني ورب الندى ال

داني ويا ذا الصفحةِ الطَّلقَه

O bestower of favors, lord of the dewy

Morning, o you of easy, smooth forgiveness

لا من بني صوني أتاني الذي

أرجو به الصون ولا الرقّه

Not from my protected people came he who

I hope will protect me, nor pity

فارحم فتى ليس يُرى في الثنا

مقصِّرا إن طالت الشقه

So have mercy on a youth not seen as

Negligent, though misfortune is prolonged

واليوم من أضحى مقِلاً غدا

أقل في العينِ من البقَّه

Today one who rose high, tomorrow will be

Lower in the eye than a clod

فاجعل بمن يبقيكَ بين الغِنى

وبينَهُ عن كَثَبٍ عُلقَه

So make with one who keeps you between wealth

And him a firm, tight bond

واقتن مدحا لو أتى جرولا

ما دق يوما معه دقه

And acquire praise - if a beetle came with it

It would never knock with him a knock
