My body is lean with love and passion

Some from my beloved, some from my Lord

Two fires - one, if revealed, cured with medicine

    The other concealed from medicine

My Master, wait, for I cannot bear

To reproach except in the place of reproach

I am tried, its afflictions fixed

More relentless than the winds in the deserts

More copious than my tears, so when

I despair of it, my heart is on fire

Deprived of wearing clothes, I have been

Stripped naked except for moist pearls

My body, weak against it, when

    Aroused, is not firm

    My hands clasping each other

Are like two armies meeting in battle and striking

    And between them is nothing

Except withered dark fingers and twigs

As if my fingers when unleashed

Are horses charging in the battlefield of my body

Sometimes driving to the right, reversing it

Other times to the left and heart

Until night comes and I am with it

Thrown on my back or side

As if my body is the spoils and my hands

    Plundering it, ranging in pillage

So forgive me, O Muhammad, my protector

    And pardon a sinful supplicant

For I cannot withstand the reproach

For what I complained, so overlook and disregard my sin
