1. يا دُرة حَفَها النُيـ

    ـل وَاِحتَواها البر

    O pearl enveloped by the Nile

    And embraced by land

  2. صَحى الدُجى وَتَغشا

    ك في الأُسرة فَجر

    Dawn has risen and darkness has spread

    Imprisoning you at dawn

  3. وَصاحَ بَين الرُبى الغـ

    ـر عَبقري أَغَر

    The young camel herder cried out

    A genius with reddish complexion

  4. وَطافَ حَولَك رَكب

    مَن الكَراكي أَغَر

    And a group of young men on horses circled you

    Shaking their eyes clear

  5. وَراحَ يَنفض عَينيه

    مِن بَني الأَيك حُر

    They got excited and started a celebration

    And stayed up late into the night

  6. فَماج بِالأَيك عِش

    وَقامَ في العش دير

    What an amalgamation of art

    Created by your hands and magic

  7. كَم ذا تَمازج فَن

    عَلى يَديك وَسحر

    The bull bellows, the sheep bleats and the donkey brays

    While the beasts frolic and the plants grow lush

  8. يَخور ثور وَتَثغو

    شاة وَتَنهق حمر

    The tones harmonize, the melodies blend

    And the flutes play a delightful tune

  9. وَالبهم تَمرح وَالزَر

    ع مونق مخضر

    The voice of the flautist rises

    While he is immersed in passion

  10. تَجاوب اللَحن وَالطَح

    ن وَالثغاء المسر

    The neighbors were annoyed

    By the constant noise

  11. وَهب صَوت النَواع

    ير وَهُوَ في الشَجو مر

    Some instruments broke

    As they fell, unable to be fixed

  12. إِن الجِوار وَقَد ضا

    ق بِالقَليب المَمر

    That one has a cracked head

    How much it hurts and wounds!

  13. تَكسرت وَهِي تَهوي

    فَما تَلاءم كَسر

    And that one is sick

    Like a grave for memories

  14. فَتِلك مَعصوبة الرا

    س كَم تَني وَتخر

    And your horn, O sun

    Scattered particles at that time

  15. وَتِلكَ مَرضى وَهاتيـ

    ـك لِلخَواطر قَبر

    So every branch has lanterns

    Dripping with dew that it sheds

  16. وَظَلَ قرنك يا شَمـ

    ـس آنذاك يَذر

    The rising sun's light turned red

    In the green land

  17. فَكُل غُصن مَصابيح

    مِن نَدى يَستدر

    It melted into the sand

    Or dissolved into the hills

  18. وَنور الطل وَاحَمَر

    في الثَرى المخضر

    The wind walks as if

    It will not scatter any particles

  19. وَذابَ في الرَمُل أَو ما

    جَ في التَرائب تَبر

    The sand glitters and shines

    Dazzling all sight

  20. تَرجل الريح ما إِنها

    ل مِن نَقا أَن تَذر

    The boats on both banks

    Seem unstable like time

  21. رَملاء يَبرق در

    مِنها وُيبهر ذر

    One sail broken

    Another sail folded

  22. وَالفلك في جانبيها

    كَالدَهر ما تَستَقر

    It unfurls and folds while the wind

    Passes by from over there

  23. هَذا شِراع مُكسر

    وَذا شِراع مفر

    One boat sways

    While another dashes

  24. يَطوي وَيَنشر وَالريـ

    ـح مِن هُناك تَمُر

    It settles and sets sail, while the river

    Remains still and quiet

  25. وَزَورق يَتَهادى

    وَزَورَق يَستَحر

    On the shore, many birds

    With various wings gather

  26. يُرسي وَيُقلع وَالشَط

    هادئ مُستَقر

    And many a nest for the falcon

    And the beautiful sandgrouse is home

  27. وَفي الضِفاف أَوزّ

    دكن الجَوانح كَثر

    It flourished by the Nile

    With the best roots and most noble trunk

  28. وَرَب قَنواء لِلعَصـ

    ـم وَالأَنوق مَقَر

    Wearing it down for ages

    Rectangular in shape by the yard

  29. أَوفى عَلى النيل فرع

    مِنها وَأَشرَف جَذر

    The river bank almost

    Casts it away, untouched

  30. يَقلها الدَهر عرقا

    ن مُستَطيل وَشَبر

    And the Nile offers it

    Sustenance, though meager

  31. يَكادُ يَلفظها الشَط

    وَهِيَ شَمطاء بكر

    How many eras have passed

    And how many epochs crumbled!

  32. وَالنيل يقدم مد

    مِنهُ وَيَجفل جزر

    That is where she takes refuge

    When the fire grows intense

  33. وَكَم تَقادم عَهد

    وَكَم تَصرم دهر

    Oh sister of Egypt, you are devoted

    To her in times of adversity

  34. وَتِلكَ يَأوي إِلَيها

    في الوَقدة المُستَحر

    Long live your youth

    With prosperity and ease!

  35. يا أُخت مصر وَتَفد

    يك في المَكاره مَصر

    How many people in the farms

    Smelling the mud walls out of hunger

  36. حَيا شَبابك فَيض

    مِن الرَخاء وَيسر

    They hurried to it

    With no way out

  37. كَم في المَزارع قَوم

    شَم العَرانين صعر

    One is picking

    Grass with great effort, not settling

  38. هِبوا سِراعاً إِليها

    وَلَيسَ مِنها مَفَر

    Another is busy with plowing

    Another with sowing

  39. ذياك يَعزق في

    العُشب جاهِداً ما يَقر

    And the flood plain became filled

    With a sight that brings joy

  40. وَذاكَ يَعنيهَ حَرث

    وَذاكَ يَعنيهِ بِذر

    Wheat in the ears

    Nothing was difficult

  41. وَماجَ في الغَيط نشأ

    ملء النَواظر خزر

    Or impossible

    The morning has continued

  42. هَناك فول وَهَذا

    ك في السَنابل بَر

    With more to come in your shelter

  43. وَما تَعذر شَيء

    وَلا تَعسر أَمر

  44. مَشى الضُحى وَلَهُ
