Do not seek vengeance from my heart
For my tears are vengeance enough
Suffice it the slights that reap
Your disdain and boasting
I believed in beauty coldly
And in youth a flaming fire
And in the church and those who went around it
Seeking refuge and help
A faith for those who worship beauty
In the eyes of Christians
You have been tested, oh beauty
In pride or aloofness
And I have known you, oh decoy
With a mocking smile
And I have witnessed you, oh harsh one
A tyrannical sword
I have yearned for you, love and God
And for hot tears
Why did you not cast away the splendor of beauty
And remember the neighborhood
