أَجد وَتَهزَل فيما أَجد

وَتَهرب مِن وَجهِهِ أَو تَند

I find and jest about what I find

And flee from its essence or deny

لَهَوت بِقُدس الهَوى في القُلوب

وَأَنكَرت هَيمَنة المُستَبد

You toyed with the sanctity of love in hearts

And refused the tyranny of the despot

فَيا وَادِعاً حالَماً كَالمَلا

ئك تَهبط مِن حُجرات الأَبَد

So o serene dreamer like angels

Descending from the chambers of eternity

يَرف عَلَيهِ شَباب الفُنون

وَتَبرق في وَجنَتيهِ الفَصد

On whom the youth of arts flutter

And inspiration flows in his cheeks

أَتُنكر عَيناكَ هَذا المَصير

وَيَجحد حُسنك هَذا المَرَد

Would you deny your eyes this destiny?

And would your beauty deny this rejection?

وَيا صَبوة رَكَزت في الضُلوع

عَلى غَير سارِية أَو عَمد

And o whim implanted in my ribs

Without a holder or pillar

يَشيدها الأَمَل المُستَفيض

وَيَحصدها اللَهو فيما حَصد

Which boundless hope builds

And transient delight reaps what it sowed

رَمَيت بِها في صَميم الوُجود

وَأَعلَنتها فَجر يَوم الأَحَد

I cast it into the core of existence

And declared it the dawn of Sunday

وَضَعت يَدي حَيث كانَ الفُؤ

اد وَحَيث يَكون الهَوى المُتَقد

I placed my hand where ardor was

And where passion burns

وَأَرسَلتُها لَكَ في لَوعة

لَعَلَك تَعرف ماذا أَجد

And sent it to you in agony

Maybe you'll know what I find

أُحبك حَتّى تَبيد السَماء

وَيَبتَلع النيرات الأَبَد

I love you until the sky perishes

And eternity swallows the rivers
