ولا عَيبَ في اليَحمومِ غَيرُ هُزالِهِ
عَلَى أَنَّهُ يَومَ الهِياجِ سَمينُ
There is no flaw in al-Yaḥmūm, the black steed, save his leanness;
though on the day of battle he is stout.
وكَم مِن عظيمِ الخَلقِ عبلٍ مُوثَّقِ
حواهُ وفيهِ بَعدَ ذاك جُنونُ
How many a mighty-framed, burly, firmly knit man
has he borne—and beyond all that, there is frenzy in him.
