إِذا أَصبَحتُ بَينَ جِبالِ قَوٍّ
وَبيضانِ القُرى لَم تَحذَريني
When I come between mountains of strength
And white villages you do not fear me
فَإِمّا أَن تَوَدّينا فَنَرعى
أَمانَتَكُم وَإِمّا أَن تَخوني
Either we pasture in peace
Or you betray my trust
سَأُخلِي لِلظَّعينَةِ ما أَرادَت
وَلَستُ بِحارِسٍ لَكِ كُلَّ حينِ
I will leave the restless one to her desire
And I’m no guardian over you forever
إِذا ما جِئتِ ما أَنهاكِ عَنهُ
وَلَم أُنكِر عَلَيكِ فَطَلِّقيني
When you come, exhausted from what you fled
And I don’t deny you, divorce me
فَأَنتِ البَعلُ يَومَئِذٍ فَقومي
بِسَوطِكِ لا أَبا لَكِ فَاِضرِبيني
For you’ll be the husband that day, arise
With your whip, I shall not resist, strike me
