نَعيبُ زَمانَنا وَالعَيبُ فينا
وَما لِزَمانِنا عَيبٌ سِوانا
We blame our age, though the blame lies in us;
yet our age has no fault but us.
وَنَهجو ذا الزَمانِ بِغَيرِ ذَنبٍ
وَلَو نَطَقَ الزَمانُ لَنا هَجانا
We revile this age for no fault of its own;
had the age a tongue, it would revile us.
وَلَيسَ الذِئبُ يَأكُلُ لَحمَ ذِئبٍ
وَيَأكُلُ بَعضُنا بَعضاً عَيانا
A wolf does not eat the flesh of another wolf,
yet some of us devour others in plain sight.
