I find relief in discharging a rightful due;
it will weigh heavily one day if you deliberately leave it undone.
It is fortune enough for you to be seen as no liar,
and to say, “I did not know”—that is an arduous thing.
Whoever renders his neighbor his due, after his cousin
and his closest companion, whether near or far,
will live as a lord, and people will find his memory sweet;
and if a rightful need befalls him, they will come directly to him.
