1. إِنّي أُعَزّيكَ لا أَنّي عَلى طَمَعٍ

    مِنَ الخُلودِ وَلَكِن سُنَّةُ الدينِ

    I comfort you not because I hope

    For immortality, but as our faith ordains.

  2. فَما المُعَزّى بِباقٍ بَعدَ صاحِبِهِ

    وَلا المُعَزّي وَإِن عاشا إِلى حينِ

    No comfort lasts when one's companion goes -

    And comforter, though spared, soon follows on.
