I have been satisfied with mere livelihood for some time
And have guarded myself against disgrace
Fearing people would say:
"So-and-so is superior to so-and-so"
As for him whose wealth made me self-sufficient
I care not if he abandons me
And whoever looked on me with belittling eyes
I looked on him with the same eyes he looked on me
And whoever looked on me with admiring eyes
I looked on him as the embodiment of meanings
