أَلا دِيارَ الحَيِّ بَينَ مُحَجَّرٍ

إِلَى جانِبِ القَمرى كَأَن لَم تَغَيَّرِ

O dwellings of the living between enclosures,

Beside El-Kumeirah, as though they had not changed,

وَقَفتَ بِها لاَ أَنتَ قاضٍ لُبانَةً

وَلا اليَأسُ يَشفِي حاجَةَ المُتَذَكِّرِ

You halted in them not craving for Ubānah's judgement hall,

Nor does despair heal the recollection of the reminiscent one.

أَلا أَيُّها الباكِي عَلى ما يَعُولُهُ

تَجَمَّل عَلى ما يُحدِثُ الدَهرُ وَاصِبِر

O you who weep over what can be relied on,

Be patient toward what time brings, and be graceful over it.

أَلَمَّ خَيالٌ مِن أُمَيمَةَ مُوهِناً

طُروقاً وأَصحابِي بِدارَةِ خَنزَرِ

Did the apparition of Umm Aymam saddle us

With humility while my companions are in Darat Kanzar?

إِذا انتَمَيا فَوقَ الفِراشِ عَلاَهُما

تَضَوُّعُ رَيَّا رِيحِ مِسكٍ وَعَنبَرِ

When they slumber above the bed, a scent of musk and ambergris

Envelops them.

فَإِن كُنتَ لاَ تَرضى بِما كانَ جائِياً

فَإِن كانَ تَنكيِرٌ لَدَيكَ فأَنكِرِ

So if you are not pleased with what has come to pass,

And if denial is with you, then deny.
