  1. If we take no delight in this age and its sweetness,

    then we have no share in the good things—

  2. despite the beauty and sweetness of springtime days,

    though through spring the world grows lovely and sweet.

  3. Answer the caller to delights; the rose stands

    upon the pulpit of delights, a preacher.

  4. O rose, delight us with your fragrance and radiance;

    for you resemble the beloved and are yourself beloved.

  5. Refresh lovers’ hearts and the love within them—

    but have hearts ever been found among lovers?
