بَدوُ الإساءة حبٌّ كان عن زللٍ

وما لخلقٍ بردِّ الفائتات يَدُ

The appearing of wrong is love from a slip,

And no one blames creations for what is past,

إذا لسان الفتى أضحى يقاتله

بسيف حتفٍ فمن يأخذ له القوَدُ

If the youth's tongue battles him,

With the sword of his doom, who will take revenge for him?

خطيئةٌ أخرجَتني من جنان مُنىً

وأضرمت فيَّ نار اليأس تَتَّقد

A sin that extracted me from the gardens of bliss,

And ignited in me the fire of despair, burning,

لو كان بي خَرَسٌ مما نطقتُ به

لكان في الخرس التوفيق والرَّشد

If there was muteness in me from what I uttered,

Then in that muteness is success and righteousness.

فإن تكن غفلةٌ جاءت بسيئةٍ

مني فقد كان إحساني له مددُ

So if an inattentiveness brought about an evil,

From me, then my benevolence to it has been support,

إذا الأحبَّة لم يرعوا ولم يَصِلوا

فالموت إن قربوا والموت إن بعدوا

If the loved ones did not care or connect,

Then death whether they are near or far.

صبراً عليهم وإن جاروا وإن ظلموا

هم الأحبَّة إن غابوا وإن شهدوا

Patience with them even if they wronged or were unfair,

They are the loved ones whether absent or present.

إني لأُنشِد بيتاً قد لهجتُ به

لأن شجوي على معناه يطَّردُ

I recite a verse I murmured,

Because my passion agrees with its meaning,

لأخرجنَّ من الدنيا وحبُّكُمُ

بين الجوانح لم يشعر به أحدُ

I will leave the world while your love,

No one feels it in their heart.
