لم أحضر المجلسَ شوقاً الى

كلامِ منصورِ بن عمّارِ

I did not attend the gathering out of longing

For the speech of Mansur ibn 'Ammar

لكن ليستمتع لي ناظري

منك فأقضي بعضَ أوطاري

But so my onlookers may enjoy

Me spending some of my time

وما استماعي لكلام امرئٍ

يزيد في شوقي وتذكاري

And my listening to some man's speech

Does not increase my longing and recollection

كأنه في كل ما قال لي

يخبرني عن بعض أخباري

As if he tells me in all he said

About some of my news

فالوصل والهجر على ما جَنى

من وصفة الجنة والنارِ

So connection and separation, according to what

He described of Heaven and Hell

لكنَّه لمّا دعا لم يكن

شيء سوى عطفك إضماري

But when he called, there was not

Anything but your kindness implied
