أما لو كنتُ مُهدِيَ ملكِ مِصرٍ

إليك لَقَلَّ عن مقدار شُكرِكْ

If I were to bring you Egypt's majesty

Words could not match your gratitude's degree

فأهديتُ القليلَ ببسط أُنسي

وأسألك القبول بِبَسط عذرِكْ

So little have I offered, though at ease

I ask you accept in grace my poor plea
