1. كم شهوةٍ مستقرَّة فرحاً

    قد انجلت عن حلول آفاتِ

    How much settled desire, rejoicing,

    Has been unveiled by the coming of misfortunes,

  2. وكم جهولٍ تراه مشترياً

    سرور وقتٍ بغمِّ أوقاتِ

    And how much ignorance seems like joy

    At times of sorrow for times of joy.

  3. كم شهواتٍ سلَبنَ صاحبها

    ثوبَ الديانات والمروءاتِ

    How many desires have stripped their owner

    Of the garb of religion and manliness.
