1. يومٌ أتى بنسيم الرِّيح موسوما

    مباركٌ بزمام المُلك مزموما

    A day came with the breeze of the wind, bearing good tidings

    Blessed with the reins of the kingdom, bound tight

  2. المهرجان الذي كانت تبجِّله

    ملوك تبجيلاً وتعظيما

    The festival which kings used to revere

    With utmost reverence and glorification

  3. فاليمن طائرُه والسعد طالعُه

    تفاؤلاً يوجب الزلفى وتنجيما

    Yemen, its bird is auspicious, and its fortune is rising

    Portending intimacy and astrology

  4. جاءتك عافيةٌ فاز الأنامُ بها

    فوزاً عظيماً فمخصوصاً ومعموما

    Your wellbeing has come, and people have won through it

    A great universal and special victory

  5. من بعدما شَنَّقَ الإرهاقُ أنفسَهم

    وضُرِّمَت جمراتُ الخوف تضريما

    After exhaustion had hanged itself by the neck

    And the embers of fear were stoked

  6. وَعكُ الأمير وقاه اللَه كلَّ أذىً

    أنشا سحاباً من الأحزان مركوما

    The health of the prince - may God protect him from all harm -

    Formed a cloud of sorrows, piled up

  7. لم يبق في الأرض لا روحٌ ولا بدنٌ

    إلا وقد كان من حُمّاك محوما

    There was no soul or body left on earth

    That was not branded by your fever

  8. حُمّاك نغَّصتِ اللذات فانقلبت

    من التنغُّص غِسليناً وزقُّوما

    Your fever which soured pleasures, so they changed

    From bitterness into our potions and torment

  9. حتّى حسبنا نسيمَ الريح صار لظىً

    يشوي القلوب وصار الظلُّ يحموما

    Until we thought the breeze itself had become heated air

    Scorching hearts, and shade itself feverish

  10. قسمتَ حُسناك بين الناس كلِّهمِ

    فصار وَعكُك بين الناس مقسوما

    You distributed your beauty among all people

    So your absence was shared out among people

  11. لقد أبارَت قلوبَ الناس من جزعٍ

    أنفاسُ كربٍ يُفَكِّكنَ الحيازيما

    People's hearts despaired from anguish

    Sighs of distress unlocking the fetters

  12. فقد كفى اللَه ما خافوا وما حذروا

    فعاد مستبشراً مَن كان مهموما

    God sufficed for what they feared and were wary of

    So the despondent became hopeful again

  13. من بعدما اصفرَّ وجهُ العيش حين رأى

    خدَّ السرور بكفِّ الحزن ملطوما

    After the face of life had turned yellow, when it saw

    The cheek of joy slapped by the palm of sorrow

  14. وأقبل الجودُ كالولهان حين بدا

    دمعُ المكارم والإحسانِ مسجوما

    And generosity came galloping when

    The tears of virtues and kindness were brewed

  15. كانت لعلَّتك الدنيا على وجلٍ

    خوفاً وكان لك الإسلامُ مغموما

    The world was uneasy because of your illness

    And Islam was gloomy because of you

  16. سبحان مَن كشف البلوى وفرَّجَها

    من بعدما صمَّم المكروهُ تصميما

    Glory to Him who dispelled the afflictions and relieved them

    After adversity had been determined decisively

  17. فنحمد اللَه في تجديد نعمته

    حمداً يحقِّق للتجديد تتميما

    So we praise God in renewing His blessing

    With praise that completes the renewal

  18. هذا الأمير ابن يزدادَ الذي ملأت

    آثارُه وأياديه الأقاليما

    This is the prince, the son of the ever-increasing Yazid

    Whose traces and hands filled the horizons

  19. والناس قد علموا مقدارَ سيرته

    منهم وزادهم الإشفاقُ تعليما

    And people had known the extent of his conduct

    Which increased their compassion for him

  20. يا عصمة الدين والدنيا وزينتها

    لا زلتَ من نكبات الدهر معصوما

    O protection of the religion, world and its beauty

    You remain protected from the blows of fate

  21. وكيف لا يتمنّى الناسُ كلُّهم

    حياةَ مَن قد أماتَ الجورَ واللُّوما

    How can people not all desire

    The life of one who has killed tyranny and blame

  22. عدلُ الأمير وإحسانُ الأمير هما

    رَدّا الزمانَ عن الأحرار مخصوما

    The justice and kindness of the prince

    Have turned the times away from the helpless, accused

  23. لا تعد مَنَّك دنياً أنت واحدُها

    إذ كان شبهُك في ذا الدهرِ معدوما

    Do not consider yourself mortal, you who are unique

    Since your likeness in this age is non-existent

  24. صارت بك البصرة المأوى وقد غَنِيَت

    وصار معنومها في الناس معنوما

    Basra became a refuge, enriched through you

    And its deprived became endowed

  25. عهدي بها وهي إقليم الشقاق فقد

    صَيَّرتَها أنت للتأليف إقليما

    I knew it as the land of discord, but you

    Made it a land of accord

  26. فزادك اللهُ تمكيناً ومقدرةً

    وزاد أنفَ الذي عاداك ترغيما

    May God increase your authority and power

    And humiliate the nose of your enemy

  27. صَيَّرتَ حُسناك حتماً منك مفتَرَضاً

    فصار حبُّك مفروضاً ومحتوما

    You made your beauty an obligation from you

    So love of you became obligatory and destined

  28. صنائعٌ لك في الدنيا مشهَّرةٌ

    تكاد بالشكرِ أن يفُصِحنَ تكليما

    You have renowned works in the world

    That almost speak in gratitude

  29. زحزحت عن كلِّ مظلومٍ ظُلامَتَهُ

    فصار مالُكَ للراجين مظلوما

    You have removed the injustice from every wronged one

    So your possession became wronged

  30. فحين حُكِّمتَ في الدنيا وزخرفها

    حَكَّمتَ دِينك في دنياك تحكيما

    When you ruled the world and its splendor

    You made your religion rule your world

  31. أقبلتَ تخدم تقوى اللَه مجتهداً

    فصرت باليمن والإقبال مخدوما

    You came to serve fear of God diligently

    So you became served with success and prosperity

  32. يستنشق الناس طِيباً إن ذكِرتَ لهم

    كأنَّ أسماعهم صارت خياشيما

    People inhale your sweet scent whenever you are mentioned

    As if their hearings have become gills

  33. يا مَن إذا ما رأى المحرومُ طلعتَه

    فلن يُرى ذلك المحروم محروما

    O you, if the deprived sees your rising

    Then that deprived will not be seen deprived

  34. لا زال ركنك موطوداً تُشيِّده

    ولم يزل ركنُ مَن ناواك مهدوما

    Your pillar remains steadfast as you build it up

    While the pillar of those who opposed you is demolished

  35. من رام يبغيك لم يظفر ببغيته

    حتّى يرى الزِّنج في ألوانهم رُوما

    Whoever desires ill towards you will not attain his desire

    Until he sees the blacks in their colors as Romans

  36. اني لأكتم حاجاتٍ تُثَقِّلني

    وأثقلُ السقمِ سقمٌ كان مكتوما

    I conceal needs that weigh heavily upon me

    And the sickness weighed is a concealed sickness

  37. ما حيلة العبد في إذكار سيِّدِه

    بعد التغافلِ عمّا كانَ معلوما

    What can the servant do in remembering his master

    After neglecting what was known?

  38. بَينا أُؤمِّل أن أزداد نافلةً

    حتّى مُنِعتُ الذي قد كان مرسوما

    While I hope to increase in supererogation

    I am prevented from what was customary

  39. والموت أجمل بالإنسان منزلةً

    من أن يُرى بخِطام الذلِّ مخطوما

    Death is a more beautiful dwelling for man

    Than being seen bridled by humiliation

  40. لِم أخَّرَ الكاتبُ الإنجازَ في عِدَتي

    وكيف لا يجعل التأخير تقديما

    Why did the writer delay fulfilling my equipment

    And how can delay not make advance?

  41. هذا على أنَّه المرضيُّ مذهبُه

    في السرِّ والجهر تعديلاً وتقويما

    This, although his approved way

    In private and public is reform and correction

  42. قد هذَّبَته بتقويمٍ صرامَتُه

    وزاده النصح تهذيباً وتصريما

    His severity has disciplined him with correction

    And advice increased his cultivation and composure

  43. ولا يُلام فتىً يحتاط منتصحاً

    ليس احتياطُ الفتى في النصح مذموما

    One cannot blame a young man who takes precautions advisably

    A young man's precaution in advice is not blameworthy

  44. لكن أرى المطلَ داءً في تطاولِهِ

    وبالعناية يُلقى الداءُ محسوما

    But I see waiting is a disease in its prolonging

    And with care the disease is precisely diagnosed

  45. هل غير إحسانِ فعلٍ أو إساءَته

    يبقى جزاؤهما في الصُّحف مرقوما

    Is there anything other than the reward of a good or bad deed

    That remains recorded in the scriptures?

  46. لا خير في القول معسولاً مذاقَتُه

    حتّى إذا اختبروه كان مسموما

    No good in agreeable words whose flavor

    When tested, is poisonous

  47. لا بدَّ من نفثة المصدور ينفثها

    لولا الكلام لكان القلب مكلوما

    There must be an utterance from the sincere, uttering it

    Otherwise the heart would be suppressed
