  3. يرمي العيونَ ويستدعي القلوب ويس

    تصفي العقولَ ويستولي على المُهجِ

    He captivates eyes and beguiles hearts

    Purifying minds and capturing passions

  4. أمير حسنٍ بدا للناس في خِلعٍ

    من البهاء بشكلٍ فيه منتسجِ

    A prince of beauty appeared to people in robes

    Of such splendor, perfectly well-tailored

  5. أمير حسن يرينا من محاسنه

    جنداً تركنَ قلوب الناس في رهجِ

    This prince of beauty shows us with his charms

    An army that occupies people's hearts zealously

  6. إذا العيون بذاك المنظر اكتحلت

    رأينَ ما غيره في منظر سمجِ

    When eyes are lined with seeing him

    They see nothing else as crude or vulgar

  7. فكلما كحلت عيني برؤيته

    زاد البلاء على قلبٍ به بَهِجِ

    The more my eyes are lined in seeing him

    The more my heart's affliction and joy increase

  8. قد عطَّل الدرَّ والمرجانَ مضحكُهُ

    والوردُ في خجلٍ من خدِّه الضَّرِجِ

    He has outshone pearls' laughter and coral's mirth

    While the rose is shy of his blushing cheeks

  9. يمشي فتنتفِضُ الأغصانُ من دهشٍ

    ويستبين اضطرابُ الماء في اللُّججِ

    He walks and branches quiver in awe

    The water's unrest becomes obvious in ponds

  10. كُلٌّ يريد بأن يحكي حكايته

    وبينهم دَرَجاتٌ صعبةُ الدَّرجِ

    Each thing wants to tell its tale of him

    Though their ranks are hard to precisely gauge

  11. ففي تعطُّفِ أعطافٍ له فِتَني

    وفي تردُّف أردافٍ له فَرَجي

    In the coquetry of his flirtations is my temptation

    In the undulation of his hips is my enjoyment

  12. أفديك من سَبَجيٍّ كاملِ السَّبجِ

    فالشَعرُ من قَطَطٍ والكحل من غَنَجِ

    I'd sacrifice myself for one so perfectly charming

    Poetry springs from his curls, kohl from his eyes

  13. نُغنَى بوجهك عن شمس وعن قمرٍ

    ونارُ خديك تغنينا عن السُرجِ

    Your face makes sun and moon unnecessary to us

    Your fiery cheeks suffice us instead of torches

  14. أقول للعاذل المحتجِّ في عذَلٍ

    انظر إليه فكم لي فيه من حُججِ

    I say to the critic admonishing reproachfully

    Look at him - how much proof of him I have!

  15. لو زُلزل القلب زلزالاً لما انزعجت

    مودَّتي لك فاثبت غير مُنزعجِ

    If the heart quaked with an earthquake, still

    My love for you would remain unshaken

  16. شربتُ حبك صرفاً لا مزاج له

    فسقِّني الوصل صرفاً غير ممتزج

    I drank your love purely, unmingled

    So let our union give me pure untainted drink

  17. فرؤيتي لك تُحييني وتقتلني

    ومهجتي منك في موتٍ وفي وَهَجِ

    Seeing you brings me life and death

    And my passions for you are in death and fervor

  18. اذا تحرَّجتَ من عهدٍ يخون به

    والعبدُ عبدك فاقتله بلا حرجِ

    If you feel uneasy about a pact betrayed

    Then kill the slave without discomfort
