يا قليل الإنصاف قلَّةُ إنصا

فِك في الحبِّ مثل قلَّة صبري

O you who are unfair, how scarce is your fairness,

In love, my patience is as scarce as yours.

لا تلمني إن ضاق عفوك عني

في الهوى أن يضيق بالشوق صدري

Do not blame me if your forgiveness towards me grows scarce,

If in passion, my chest grows tight with yearning.

كان عذري إليك عندك ذنباً

فأنا الدهر في اعتذارٍ لعذري

My excuse to you became with you a sin,

So I spend my days excusing my excuse.

كنتُ أبكي من هجر يومٍ بيومٍ

كيف إذ صار هجر شهرٍ بشهرِ

I used to cry from the abandonment of one day after another,

How then when the abandonment turned to month after month?
