دَعَوتُم عامِراً فَنَبَذتُموهُ
وَلَم تَدعوا مُعاوِيَةَ بنِ عَمروِ
You called Aamir, yet you rejected him
And you did not call Mu'awiyah ibn 'Amr
وَلَو نادَيتَهُ لَأَتاكَ يَسعى
حَثيثَ الرَكضِ أَو لَأَتاكَ يَجري
Had you called him, he would have come hastening
Running swiftly or he would have come sprinting
مُدِلّاً حينَ تَشتَجِرُ العَوالي
وَيُدرِكُ وِترَهُ في كُلِّ وِترِ
Yielding when calamity strikes
And meeting his fate at every turn
إِذا لاقى المَنايا لا يُبالي
أَفي يُسرٍ أَتاهُ أَم بِعُسرِ
When death comes, he does not care
Whether it came easily or with hardship
كَمِثلِ اللَيثِ مُفتَرِشٍ يَدَيهِ
جَريءِ الصَدرِ رِئبالٍ سِبَطرِ
Like a lion crouching, paws spread
Brave-chested, feared and noble
