Oh my eye, be generous with your flowing tears

And cry for the grandest defender against adversaries

A branch from a generous people, noble lineage

Raised by them, nothing but the best timber

I say, when news of his death reached me

    And people whispered in secret

Oh brother, whether you bid us farewell

Or distance keeps you from your grave

How many kind acts you bestowed

    Upon orphans and little ones

    How much bounty you granted

    To captives in chains

My family is ransomed for one so wronged

The greatest among them shone between adverts

A slain hero of thrusting polished spears

    Like lightning flashing through homes

Let those who once wept for a master

Now weep for him with burning tears

Let the horses weep when their master is lost

In the field of death after stumbling

Let every brother in distress weep

When the refuge grows too confining

A spring rain for the slain, a shelter for dew

When people fear drought suspending rain

He watered a land hosting his grave

    With clouds pouring heavy rain

My only question, so he might be quenched

By a downpour in the arid desert

Say to those who rejoice at his fate

You and death are both destined

It eased my sorrow that he who cheered

His death pursues him, never resting

    Between them just a moment

After one who marched by daylight's end

Oh you who struck the knight in battle

With your sword in the land of thorn trees

Hurling him into its pits, smooth

As the desert lynx, firm in slaughter

    You battled champions protecting her

    Until they shunned harming homes

I swear by the House and its visitors

As they set the smooth stones towards pebbles

I will not lament after you are gone

Though the valleys of goodwill mourn you

Oh what anguish appeared in my core

Like embers bursting within my heart

Those once kin or neighbors now spurn me

    Should time finish with you

And you become a course for flowing sands

    For every living meets decay

And every rope must someday unravel
