تظلم شرطيّ وغمّاز بابه

ومقترفٌ ذنبا أضرّا وشاتما

The policeman oppresses and defames the innocent,

And commits a grave sin, insulting,

إذا ثبت الريب استهان بأمره

توهّمَه عرسا فأصبح هائما

If suspicion is proven, he takes his matter lightly,

Deeming it a wedding feast, so he spends the day confused,

ولو ثبت التقوى لبات مكرّما

وأصبح في عزّ مصانا مكرّما

And had piety been proven he would have spent the night honored,

And spent the morning in might, protected and honored,

ولكنّه أعطى هواه قيادهُ

فصيّرَ ما يهوى إلى السجن سلما

But he let his desire lead him,

So what he desires leads him to prison as a staircase.
