    من سقام فارتاع منّي الطبيب

  2. جسّ زندي فقال لي بك داءٌ

    من بلى بالذي بليت يذيبُ

    He felt my pulse and said to me you have an illness

  3. قلت ما بي فقال لي فيك همّ

    واشتياق وزفرة ونحيب

    I said there is nothing wrong with me, he said you have worries

  4. قلت صف لي فقال لي بانكسار

    فطبيبي ممّا رأى بي كئيب

    I said describe it, he said with brokenness

    So my doctor because of what he saw in me was sad

  5. خذ من الصبر والتجمّل جزءا

    ومن الذل فهو شيء عجيب

    Take some patience and composure

    And some humiliation, it is an amazing thing

  6. وأذبه ببعض ماء التوافي

    فإذا ما فعلت جاد الحبيب

    And temper it with some water of concord

    If you do this, the beloved will be generous
