1. أقول لمنكر يغتاظ ممّا

    يرى من ضعف أركان الزمانه

    I say to one who grows indignant at what

    he sees of weakness in the pillars of the age:

  2. تأمّل في الحقيقة كل حيّ

    بعين الحقّ لا عين المجانه

    Consider, as they truly are, every living soul

    with the eye of truth, not the eye of shamelessness.

  3. ودقّق إن فطنت ترى رجالا

    تواصوا الخيانة والمهانه

    Look closely—if you have discernment, you will see men

    urging one another to treachery and abasement.

  4. فلا أدب ولا دين وخوف

    ولا فيهم لمؤتمن أمانه

    There is no courtesy, no religion, no fear,

    nor trustworthiness in anyone among them who is trusted.

  5. فإن صاموا وصلّوا فهو شيء

    على العادات لا حقّ الديانه

    And if they fast and pray, it is merely something

    done out of habit, not from genuine religion.
