صديق لي ينفّس عن عليل

وهمّ وهو مكروب حزين

A friend breathes for one who's ill

In worried sorrow, filled with grief

وقال يموت قلت نعم لأني

ارى معنى الحراك هو السكون

He said "he dies" I said "yes, he will"

For motion's meaning is in still

وظنّ المرء أن يحيا ويبقى

على الأيام شيء لا يكون

One thinks that he will live and stay

But nothing can life's tide waylay
