رأيت قوما في ذرى مسجد

خصّوا بأموال وإقبال

I saw a people in a mosque's precinct

Who amassed wealth and great fortune

سلمت كالرسم فما سلوا

فأوضعتني رقّة الحال

I greeted them properly, yet they did not ask

So my dire state made me stand aloof

وجاء بعدي رجلٌ موسر

فسلّم المال على المال

Then after me came a wealthy man

Who heaped his wealth upon their hoard
