Unjustly I blamed the crookedness of the leg,

When the fault was not in it, but my own folly.

Had I been able, I would have straightened my leg

To the finest form and soundest leg.

    But if Nature constrained me,

Then I was hard on those before me.

In its crookedness is fortune and care

That guards my tenderness and keeps me whole.

It protects me from all women together

    Those charmers of every spouse.

When the coquettes cast their glances, they glanced away

Seeing me betrothed, so they cut their ties.

In it too is a wisdom from God

That turns eyes from my sight and mind.
