كلوا واشربوا في عيدكم وتمتّعوا

فها أنا عارٍ ما عليّ لباس

Eat and drink on your feast day and enjoy yourselves

For here am I bare, with no clothes upon me

أبي وأبوكم آدم غير أنكم

حظيتم به دوني فليس مساس

My father and yours is Adam, but you

Were privileged over me, so there is no comparison

يسرّ أناسٌ بالغنى يوم عيدهم

وتحزنُ بالفقر المبرّح ناسُ

Some people rejoice in riches on their feast day

While the openly destitute grieve

كذاك زمان المرء خصب وخيبة

وليس على صرف الزمان قياس

Such is the time of a person, fertile and failure

And the turning of time cannot be gauged

كلوا واطعمونا قبل تغيير حالنا

بكرّ الليالي والنوازل كاس

Eat and feed us before our state changes

With the early nights and afflictions a cup
