عن ثنايا هشيمة جفرات

واهنات القوى وناب كسير

From the ruins of crevices and cracks

And the weaknesses of strength and broken fangs

وابتسام الشباب عن برد صل

د وعن مثل لؤلؤ منثور

While the smile of youth is from the coolness of

Dew and from a scattered pearl

ودلال الشباب أحلى من الشه

د مشوباً ببارد ممطور

And the coquetry of youth is sweeter than praise

Mixed with refreshing chilled wine

وتجنّي الشباب وصل ووصل

الشيخ هجر كالحادث المحذور

And the gathering of youth is connection upon connection

While the elder abandoned it like an accident to be avoided

وإذا ما خلا الكبير مع السا

شي قرنت الجاموس باليحمور

And if the elder socializes with the wanton

The ox is paired with the zebra

واستحال النعيمُ غير نعيم

واستحال السرور غير سرور

And delight becomes not delight

And happiness becomes not happiness

ليس للشيخ والعجوز سوى النو

ح على ما مضى من التقصير

The elder and the old have nothing left but
